Manipur Violence: 3 Civilians Injured As Explosion, Late-night Firing Reported In Districts

According to police, a blast triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) was reported in Bishnupur district. The bomb was placed inside a SUV parked at a culvert in Kwakta area.

As ethnic clashes continue to intensify in the northeastern state of Manipur, an explosion and multiple incidents of firing were reported in different districts of the state on Wednesday night.

According to police, a blast triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) was reported in Bishnupur district. 

The bomb was placed inside a SUV parked at a culvert in Kwakta area.

Three civilians were injured in the explosion. Doctors at the hospital said one of them was injured severely. 

Besides the explosion, firing was reported last evening in Kangpokpi district,

The security forces intervened and brought the situation under control.

However, intermittent firing persisted between 2-3 am during the night.

On May 3, the ethnic clashes broke out in Manipur after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

So far, nearly 120 people have lost their lives and over 3,000 are injured.
