The leaders of the Kuki community in Manipur who have been part of the clash in the state believe that separating an administration for the hill people might become a solution to end the violence.

The Kuki Member of Legislative Assembly Paolienlal Haokip indicated that he along with other Kuki leaders wants to go to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak about this idea while he was on a tour to Mizoram.

Haokip has begun to travel from Mizoram to New Delhi and has reportedly said that he will be meeting 10 other Kuki legislators there. They will make a decision about the situation in Manipur and plan to meet the PM in the course to appeal their plea. Among the 10, seven belong to Bharatiya Janata Party while the three others are National Democratic Alliance allies.

According to the reports, Haokip told the media, "We may decide to demand a separate state, UT or a part of a  'Greater Mizoram'."

Reportedly, so far Home Minister Amit Shah has ruled out the idea of bifurcating the Manipur administration.

The hill districts of Manipur represented by the Naga MLAs have expressed their objection regarding the idea of separating the administration.

In the Manipur administration, Naga and Kuki communities comprise 40% of the population and are spread across the hill districts while the Meitei community belongs to 53% of the population and is mostly spread across the Imphal Valley region.
