Manipur Violence: Riotous Mobs Torch Empty Houses In Moreh, Buses In Kangpokpi; 9 Arrested

At least 30 houses and shops were set ablaze by a riotous mob in restive Manipur's Moreh district on Wednesday. The mob later also intiated a shootout with security forces, said the officials.As per media reports, the abandoned houses were in the Moreh Bazar area close to the Myanmar border.

According to the officials, the security forces intervened and dispersed the mob following the arson during which a gun battle also broke out between the attackers and security forces.

A day before, two buses used by security forces to transport personnel were set on fire by a mob in Kangpokpi district. No casualty was reported.

It has been reported that the locals stopped the buses bearing Manipur registration numbers at Sapormeina and insisted that they would check if any member of another community were on board.

Police said nine people including a minor were arrested in connection with the incident of torching buses.
