Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday appealed to the residents to start wearing masks as a precautionary measure.

Sangma, after reviewing the Covid situation in the state, told reporters that the state government is continuously monitoring the condition.     The situation was reviewed after the Centre directed all states and Union territories to conduct genome sequencing on all positive samples daily following a spike in fresh cases in several countries including China.

There is nothing alarming as of now but we must not take things for granted. During this festive season, the only advice is to wear masks wherever possible, he said. He said the Covid review meeting was a procedural one.
