Female voters in Mizoram have outpaced their male counterparts in the recently held assembly election, as per data from the Chief Electoral Officer Office, Mizoram. The voter turnout for women stands at 81.25 percent, slightly higher than the 80.04 percent recorded for male voters. Overall, a commendable 80.66 percent of the total 8.52 lakh voters in the state exercised their right to vote, shaping the electoral destiny of 174 candidates, as reported by ANI.
Breaking down the voter turnout across districts, Serchhip district leads with an impressive 84.78 percent, followed closely by Mamit district at 84.65 percent, Hnahthial district at 84.19 percent, and Lunglei district at 83.68 percent. In other districts, Kolasib, Khawzawl, Saitual, Lawngtlai, Champhai, Aizawl, and Siaha recorded turnout percentages ranging from 77.03 percent to 82.95 percent.
Some notable assembly constituencies reported particularly high voter turnouts, with Thorang in Lunglei district leading at 88.19 percent, followed by Tuikum in Serchhip district and West Tuipui in Lunglei district at 87.32 percent and 87.19 percent, respectively.
As the Mizo National Front, led by Chief Minister Zoramthanga, faces a challenge from a six-party alliance comprising the Zoram Peoples Movement (ZPM) and the Congress, the election results, along with those of four other states, are eagerly awaited on December 3.
