On Saturday, after the anti-drugs force detained Nigerian nationals over visa expiration, around 100 people of African origin, surrounded a police team in the Neb Sarai area of South Delhi.
During the commotion, two of the three people being held made it out safely, but the police were able to apprehend one of them—Philip, 22—again.
Videos captured by bystanders showed the cops creating a human blockade with a thick rope while the mob yelled animatedly in their direction. Several physical fights were also captured on video.
At 6:30 p.m., a joint team from the Neb Sarai Police Station and the Narcotics Squad returned to Raju Park and took four Nigerians into custody, including a woman.
In retaliation, 150 to 200 people of African descent reportedly approached the police squad once more and attempted to assist the captives in escaping. The police somehow managed to control the escalating situation, and brought the offenders to the Neb Sarai Police Station. The deportation proceedings are underway.
