Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be introducing the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill in Lok Sabha on Monday. The bill would be replacing May 19 ordinance that proposed to take away control of the bureaucracy from the Delhi government.

This ordinance neutralized a Supreme Court decision that gave the elected regime superintendence over "services."

According to the reports, members of the Parliament received copies of the bill on Saturday.

The introduction of this bill will increase the tension between the opposition parties especially the Aam Aadmi Party which has rallied against this ordinance for months now and the Centre.

What is the NCT Bill?

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill of 2021 was introduced in Lok Sabha earlier this year that gave extensive power to the Lieutenant Governor posted in Delhi. As per the amendments of that bill, any law passed by the legislative assembly referring to the 'government' would mean the LG and not the elected regime. For any executive decision, the state government has to take the opinion of the LG. Not just that, it also restricts the elected government from conducting any day-to-day administrative decisions on its own.

The Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena was appointed by the President of India with Centre's advice.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his government strongly opposed this and took out rallies for gathering public support. He also met the opposition leaders across the country for their support when the bill is introduced in the Lok Sabha for vote.
