Monsoon Session: Which Bills Were Supposed To Be Introduced In Parliament Today?

After facing unrest from the opposition parties regarding the demand of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comment on the Manipur issue and his presence in the Parliament, the third week of the monsoon session begins today with a number of bills to be introduced by the Union ministers.

A number of bills were supposed to be introduced today in Parliament by the Union Ministers Anurag Thakur, Amit Shah, Bhupender Yadav and others. The Monsoon Session in Parliament observed unrest last week when the opposition parties held protests demanding a statement from the Prime Minister of India regarding the Manipur violence. 

Which bills will be introduced in Parliament today?

1. Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023 - Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will be introducing the Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha today. This bill will provide regulations for the press, registration of periodicals and other matters connected to it.

2. Mediation Bill, 2021 - The Mediation Bill, 2021 will be moved by Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal in the Rajya Sabha today. The proposed legislation aims to promote and facilitate institutional mediation for resolving disputes, including commercial ones. It also seeks to enforce mediated settlement agreements, establish a mediator registration body, encourage community mediation, and make online mediation a more accessible and cost-effective process.

3. Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2023 - To further amend the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav will move the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha today. The Bill was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha.

4. Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023 - Earlier passed in Rajya Sabha, Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023 aims to amend the Cinematograph Act, 1952. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will be moving the bill in Lok Sabha. 

5. Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023 - Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023 will be presented by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Lok Sabha today for consideration and passage. This bill aims to amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Act of 1969.

6. National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 - Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be introducing the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in Lok Sabha today and it aims to take the bureaucratic rights of the Delhi government and provide an extensive power to the lieutenant governor of the state.

7. Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023 - Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal is set to introduce the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Rajya Sabha today to amend the Advocates Act of 1961.

Amid protests by the opposition leaders in Parliament, the two houses have been adjourned, the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm and the Rajya Sabha till 12 pm.
