Telugu Desam Party general secretary Nara Lokesh along with other party leaders staged a silent protest at Raj Ghat on Tuesday against the arrest of the party chief N Chandrababu Naidu. The Andhra Pradesh High Court has resumed hearing Naidu's quash petition on Tuesday.
During the demonstration at Mahatma Gandhi's mausoleum, near the statue, the TDP MPs and former MPs were wearing black badges while they paid tribute to Gandhi. According to a report by IANS, the TDP leaders raised slogans and claimed Naidu’s arrest was 'illegal'.
The TDP leaders accused Naidu of being kept in judicial custody without proper evidence and demanded that the Centre of taking note of the situation in Andhra Pradesh.
Members of TDP and Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party traded barbs in Lok Sabha on Monday as Telugu Desam Party MP Jayadev Gala raised the issue of the arrest of his party chief, reported PTI. Gala accused the ruling YSRCP in the state of indulging in vendetta politics and said it was a black day for democracy when the TDP leader was arrested.
Naidu was arrested by Andhra Pradesh CID on September 9 in a multi-crore Skill Development Corporation scam.
He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a court in Vijayawada. Naidu is currently in Rajahmundry Central Jail for his alleged role in this scam and has filed two petitions in the High Court which is scheduled to hear the matter on September 19.
