A court in Mumbai issued a non-bailable warrant against alleged fake encounter victim Tulsiram Prajapati's mother on Monday for failing to appear before it to record her testimony.

Narmada Bai, Prajapati's mother, failed to appear before the court for a fourth time Monday, following which Special CBI judge S J Sharma issued the warrant.

Bailable warrants were issued against A S Shukla, J R Desai and O B Sharma of Gujarat Police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as they too failed to appear before the court. They, however, missed the court date for the first time.

These officials were part of the investigation team before the fake encounter case was taken over by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The CBI court is conducting trial in the cases related to the alleged fake encounter of suspected gangster Sohrabuddin Shaikh and his aide Prajapati, and the killing of Shaikh's wife Kausar Bi.

Shaikh and his wife were allegedly abducted by the Gujarat Police's Anti-Terrorism Squad in November 2005 and later killed.

Prajapati, said to be a witness to the killings, was allegedly killed in another fake encounter by police in Gujarat's Banaskantha district in December 2006.

The CBI filed a charge sheet against 38 persons, but 15 of the accused were discharged by the court, for lack of evidence.
