In the latest development in the Nikki Yadav murder case, the Delhi Police took accused Sahil Gehlot to the temple where they had solemnised the marriage.

The PTI cited sources to report that the Delhi Police took Gehlot to the Arya Samaj Mandir in Greater Noida where they had solemnised the marriage.

Gehlot is accused of killing Yadav, his first wife, in order to marry for the second time. The Delhi Police had last week recovered Yadav's body from a fridge at Gehlot's family-run eatery in Delhi's Mitraon village

Besides Gehlot, the Delhi Police has arrested his father, two cousins, and a friend, who are accused of aiding him in the crime.

Statements of temple priests taken

Sahil Gehlot and Nikki Yadav had got married in an Arya Samaj Mandir in Greater Noida in 2020 but had not informed their families, as per the Delhi Police.

According to the sources, police have recorded the statements of the temple's priest and the witnesses who were present at the time of the marriage.

The police on Saturday recorded the statement of Nikki Yadav's younger sister. In her statement, she denied that she was aware about the marriage of her sister with Gehlot. She told police that she knew that they were good friends, reported PTI.

What we know of the case so far?

Nikki Yadav, 23, was allegedly killed by 24-year-old Sahil Gehlot. Initially, he was believed to be her boyfriend but it's now reported that the two were actually married.

Gehlot allegedly strangled Yadav to death in his car near Kashmere Gate in Delhi. After he killed her, the Delhi Police said Gehlot stuffed her body inside a refrigerator of eatery in southwest Delhi and went off to marry another woman the same day.

The Delhi Police earlier said Gehlot drove around 30-40 km to his dhaba along with her body in his car. The car used in the commission of crime has been seized by the police.

The alleged murder took place on the intervening night of February 9 and 10 when the victim confronted the accused about his marriage, a senior police officer earlier said, adding that he killed her using the data cable of his mobile phone in his car and then kept the body in the refrigerator.

The police have so far arrested Gehlot, his father and four others -- two cousins and two friends -- in connection with the case. The police claimed that they had planned to get rid of Yadav so that Sahil Gehlot could marry a second time to a woman of the family's choosing.

Gehlot had married Yadav at an Arya Samaj temple in 2020. The couple had not informed their respective families about their marriage.

"However, when Gehlot's parents started looking for a girl for his marriage and started pressuring him to take interest in marriage..., he finally revealed to his family that he was already married," a police officer said earlier.

When Gehlot's family got to know about his marriage to Yadav, they expressed their displeasure over him marrying a girl of his choice without informing them.

Yadav's parents told police that they were not aware of her relationship or her wedding with Gehlot.
