North India Weather Update: No Respite From Biting Cold Till January 9 - All You Need To Know

On Friday, several parts of north India including Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab experienced severe cold day conditions while Cold day conditions were experienced in some pockets of Delhi and in isolated pockets of West Madhya Pradesh.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecasted that the bone-chilling cold and dense fog will continue to sweep several parts of the country, including north and central India, until at least January 9.

A day before, several parts of north India including parts of Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab experienced severe cold day conditions while Cold day conditions were experienced in some pockets of Delhi and in isolated pockets of West Madhya Pradesh.

In Delhi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 14.6 degrees Celsius on Friday, five degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 9.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. 

Dense fog continues in North India

According to IMD, moderate fog was observed in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, while shallow fog was seen in some parts of Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and in isolated pockets of East Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

According to the IMD, dense to very dense fog conditions were expected to prevail at night/morning in some parts/isolated pockets in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and East Rajasthan till January 7 and dense fog in isolated pockets for the subsequent 24 hours.

Dense to very dense fog conditions were very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning in the isolated pockets in West Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan on January 6 and dense fog in isolated pockets on January 7 and January 8, the IMD forecast stated.

Dense fog conditions were predicted for a few hours in the morning in the isolated pockets in East Uttar Pradesh from January 6 to January 9, in West Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Odisha till January 7.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely in North India during the next five days, the IMD said.
