As many as 72 persons from Gujarat, evacuated from Sudan under the Indian government's Operation Kaveri, will reach Ahmedabad post-midnight, officials said on Thursday.
They were among 246 persons brought to Mumbai by an Indian Air Force plane from Jeddah in the afternoon.
They will be brought to Ahmedabad in Volvo buses arranged by the Gujarat government and were expected to reach a little after midnight, said V G Rore, director, of Gujarat State Non-Resident Gujaratis' Foundation.
Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi will receive them at the Ahmedabad circuit house before they are taken to their respective destinations, he added.
Some Gujaratis who were in the first batch of 360 Indians evacuated from Sudan under Operation Kaveri have reached here after landing in Delhi.
Bhavin Mehta, one of them, said he had to leave the wart-torn country leaving everything behind.
"I was born there and spent most of my life there...I had to leave my house, business, and property behind and come here. We first reached Jeddah from Port Sudan by a special flight two days back, and then we were flown to Delhi. I thank the Indian government and our embassy in Sudan for their support," he told reporters.
Another evacuee, Rupesh Gandhi, said he spent nearly one week without water and electricity.
"The situation deteriorated fast after the air strikes started. They (soldiers of warring factions) are now destroying houses. We somehow managed to reach Port Sudan, from where we were taken to Jeddah by Indian authorities. I have left everything behind and come back with only a bag of clothes," he said.
