The Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead an armed Pakistani intruder Tuesday morning in Gurdaspur along the India-Pakistan international border in Punjab, officials said. The troops also recovered a fire arm from the intruder after the infiltration bid was detected around 8am.
"At about 0830 hours, BSF troops of border post Channa in Gurdaspur sector observed suspected movement of an armed Pak intruder ahead of the fence. The suspected intruder was challenged and neutralised by the troops," a BSF spokesperson said.
Currently a search operation in the area is underway, added the BSF spokesperson.
The episode is the first in 2023 where an intruder was killed at the borders. The BSF killed two infiltrators and apprehended 23 Pakistanis in 2022 along the 553-km-long India-Pakistan international border in Punjab.
Earlier on Monday, the force recovered about 1kg of suspected heroin on a drone that was shot by the troops on December 31 in Gurdaspur sector’s Kassowal area.
