India has a Helmet Man. His alter ego is Raghvendra Kumar. For more than eight years, Raghvendra, has been incessantly working towards raising awareness for road safety. He distributes helmets to riders who aren't wearing helmets. All began with the tragic loss of his close friend Krishna. Krishna died in a freak accident. His friend was not wearing any helmet. Raghvendra Kumar doesn't want anyone to feel the suffering and loss that he and Krishna's family went through after the accident.
Raghvendra hails from a small village in Kaimur district. He arrived at Delhi NCR with dreams in his eyes. Everything changed since his friend’s accident. Until this day The Helmet Man of India has distributed helmets to more than 56,000 people. The records say that at least twenty-nine people were saved due to the helmets provided by Helmet Man.
Raghvendra uses his social media account, where he has more than 26000 followers, to spread his road safety messages. He has been awarded the Asian Excellence Award in 2022.
To raise awareness, he wears a helmet even in his car. Along with this, his other initiative is to educate children who can't afford books, and it too began when he visited Krishna's house a few months after his tragic death. He came upon many dust-covered books. With the blessings of his friend’s family, he donated the books to a poor child.
He started a campaign where people donate their old books and get a helmet in return from the helmet man. He says that the actual mission is to make people smart users of the roads. He asks for support from the people who have lost family members due to road accidents.
