A day after spearheading the Congress party's rally in Delhi in which he tore into the Narendra Modi government, Rahul Gandhi on Monday will travel to election-bound Gujarat where he will address party workers.
Rahul will address a rally of booth-level party workers and attend a prayer meet at the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat's Ahmedabad where the Assembly polls are due later this year. He will address the 'Parivartan Sankalp' convention of the Congress's "booth warriors" at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, party leaders said.
Later on Monday, Rahul will later visit the Sabarmati Ashram where he will attend a prayer meet and seek blessings of Mahatma Gandhi ahead of the Congress's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'.
Rahul last visited Gujarat on May 10 when he addressed tribals in Dahod town. This time he will mobilise booth-level Congress workers for the upcoming elections and thereby launch the party's election campaign, the party leaders said.
The visit to Gujarat comes two days before the party launches the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' on September 7. It also comes amid outreach by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat which seeks to embarrass the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as retaining it would be a prestige issue for the party since it's the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from where he paved the way to become the Prime Minister of India in 2014.
The Congress party's 3,500 km long foot march will cover 12 states and two Union Territories and will be completed in nearly 150 days. The party has prepared a three-month-long campaign for the Gujarat Assembly elections due later this year, party leaders said.
Senior Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul will campaign during this period, they said, adding that the party aims to release its first list of candidates by September 15.
Rahul in Sunday's rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan accused Modi of working for a select businesspersons instead of the common people and accused the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of spreading fear and hatred among the people and are dividing the country. Other senior leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Ashok Gehlot also addressed the rally.
