Amidst the appointment of BS Yeddiyurappa's son, BY Vijayendra, as the new president of the Karnataka BJP unit, BJP MP Ramesh Jagajinagi sparked controversy by asserting that the decision came from the party's High Command and not from state party leaders. Speaking at a media event in Vijayapura, Jagajinagi expressed concern about the lack of opportunities for Dalits within the party, emphasizing that individuals from certain backgrounds, such as Dalits, face challenges in ascending within the BJP, according to media reports.
"If you're a Dalit, you won't get an opportunity to grow within the BJP," remarked Jagajinagi, highlighting a perceived bias within the party dynamics. He went on to criticize the party's high command for the appointment of BY Vijayendra as the state president, attributing the decision solely to his familial ties with BS Yeddiyurappa.
The controversy adds a layer of criticism to the upcoming official takeover of BY Vijayendra as the Karnataka BJP unit president on November 15, replacing Nalin Kumar Kateel. BJP National President JP Nadda had announced the appointment on November 10, setting the stage for increased scrutiny and discussion within the party regarding leadership selection and inclusivity.
