The SC referred the matter of decision on the disqualification of CM Eknath Shinde and 16 MLAs of his faction to the speaker of the Maharashtra Assembly, Rahul Narvekar.

The court has directed Narvekar to take a decision within 25 days

A five-judge constitution bench of SC delivered unanimous verdict on Maharashtra political row.

The Apex court said that it cannot restore the Uddhav Thackeray government as the former had resigned before the floor test, ordered by the then state Governor B S Koshyari.

The court passed severe strictures against Koshyari and his decision to accept the resignation of Thackeray as CM.

This decision to let Narvekar, a member of the Shinde faction, to decide on the disqualification of the MLAs, has come as a huge relief to Shinde and his deputy Devendra Fadnavis.

The Thackeray faction is angry at the matter being referred to the speaker for decision.

Thackeray had in his plea requested the Apex Court to decide on the disqualification issue so that it would be without prejudice. However now that the matter is before the speaker for decision the Thackeray faction feels that it will not be without prejudice.
