A pregnant woman had to undergo an abortion after being allegedly kicked in the stomach by a CPM leader in Kerala's Kozhikode, reported ANI.

According to the news reports, the woman was kicked badly when she intervened in the tussle between her husband and a local CPI(M) leader. "The woman started bleeding incessantly after being kicked by the local CPM leader. We took her to a nearby hospital, where she had to undergo a forced abortion," a local was quoted as saying.

Seven pro-Left activists have been arrested, including a local leader of the state's ruling CPM, the police told ANI.

According to NDTV report, On January 28, the seven men allegedly barged into Josana Sibby's house and thrashed her husband over a land dispute. When Ms Sibby, four months pregnant, tried to shield her husband and stop the attackers, they allegedly kicked her in the stomach.

The report added that the family has also alleged party members had pressurised them to withdraw the case. "An activist even threatened me that they will chop off my husband's legs, if we don't withdraw the case," the victim was quoted as saying..

"The local party workers are coming here daily, asking me to withdraw the complaint against Thamby," woman's husband said referring to the CPM leader. "My decision is to fight the case till the end. I have decided to sit in front of the police station demanding justice," he was quoted as saying by Times Now.
