Tamil Nadu: 3,377 Government School Students Apply For CLAT With Help Of Naan Mudhalvan Scheme

The Tamil Nadu government allocated approximately Rs 1.3 crore for the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, which effectively waived the Rs 4,000 application fee for this national-level entrance examination. Given the extension of the application deadline, the government aimed to further increase the number of students participating in the exam.

A total of 3,377 students from government schools in Tamil Nadu have utilized the Naan Mudhalvan scheme to submit their applications for the Common Law Admission Test, with their application fees covered.

The Tamil Nadu government allocated approximately Rs 1.3 crore for the Naan Mudhalvan scheme, which effectively waived the Rs 4,000 application fee for this national-level entrance examination. Given the extension of the application deadline, the government aimed to further increase the number of students participating in the exam.

The statement mentioned that the funds would be disbursed to the schools by the district Chief Education Officer, with the source being the Directorate of Model Schools.

In Chennai, the Government Higher Secondary School in Ashok Nagar stands out with the highest count of 96 students who will be taking the test.

A teacher from the school Rajalakshmi told The Hindu, "This has enabled many students to follow their dreams. The scheme ensured that children knew of the various professions and the procedure to achieve their dream. Though some lacked money to pursue it, this measure has ensured that children can follow through."

Rajalakshmi mentioned that the students had received briefings and were provided with guidance on the application process for those who expressed interest.

Bharathirajan. G., the headmaster of the Government Higher Secondary School in Manjur, Ramanathapuram, highlighted the common issue of students lacking awareness about the various career paths available to them. Often, they choose a college or a particular field simply because their friends are interested in it.

He emphasized that the current initiatives empower students to pursue their ambitions and that many of them aspire to become IAS officers, with the program serving as a stepping stone towards that goal, he added.

According to reports, the training for students, undertaken by the State government, for CLAT will soon be announced. They will be trained through videos and classes and given access to previous years' question papers.
