Tamil Nadu: Explosion In Cracker Factory Kills 8, Nearby Building Collapses

It has been reported that a nearby hotel building collapsed and four other buildings were partially damaged owing to the intensity of the blast in Tamil Nadu's cracker factory.

Krishnagiri District, Tamil Nadu, witnessed a devastating incident on Saturday as an explosion at a firecracker unit in Pazhayapettai's Boganapalli village claimed the lives of eight individuals, including three women. The explosion sent shockwaves through the community, leaving behind a trail of destruction.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the mishap and extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. In a compassionate gesture, he announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund. Additionally, he wished for the swift recovery of the injured and assured them of financial assistance, providing Rs 50,000 for their medical needs, according to PTI

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who happened to be in Tamil Nadu during the time of the incident, also expressed his condolences for the loss of lives.

Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi joined in mourning the tragedy, expressing deep sorrow for the valuable lives lost. He offered his prayers and thoughts to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Chief Minister M K Stalin, saddened by the unexpected explosion, immediately took action and directed Food Minister R Chakrapani to oversee and expedite the rescue and relief efforts. He instructed health officials at the Government Medical College Hospital to ensure that the injured receive the necessary medical care.

In a significant show of support, Chief Minister Stalin announced solatium to the families of the deceased and the injured. He ordered Rs three lakh each to be provided to the kin of those who died, Rs one lakh each to the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 each to the injured from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

The explosion not only claimed lives but also caused damage to nearby houses and shops. However, police and Fire Services personnel rushed to the scene promptly, conducting rescue operations and providing aid to the affected.
