In a move to help the small and medium industries with their power-usage, the Government of Tamil Nadu has allowed the low-tension (LT) consumers to modify their electrical load based on demand four times for free.

Moreover, the Tamil Nadu government has also announced a 15 per cent capital subsidy for installing rooftop solar power generation systems for such consumers.

In a tweet, the Tamil Nadu Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) said that the decision came after Chief Minister MK Stalin accepted the request from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state for reduction of level charges to reduce electricity load.

The decision by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) came after Stalin during a review meeting directed officials to address the requests of MSMEs regarding electricity charges.

In a tweet, the Chief Minister's Office on Saturday said, "Hon'ble Chief Minister MK Stalin has ordered to consider the demands of small, micro and medium industries and mills in Tamil Nadu and to change the electricity tariff system."

The Tamil Nadu government also decided to seek the opinion of Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission to revise the tariff for those MSMEs consuming less than 12 KW from Low Tension consumers (Tariff IIIB) to IIA1, reported PTI.

The Tamil Nadu government's decision to reduce the power tariff comes in the backdrop of industry associations highlighting the need to decrease the tariff charged for high tension and low tension consumers, noted PTI.
