Tamil Nadu government declared Thursday a holiday for all schools in five districts including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Madurai, Theni, Dinidigul, and a few taluks in Nilgiris as the northeast monsoon intensified in the southern state.
Landslide hits Tmil Nadu's Nilgiri district
After heavy downpour, a massive landslide occurred on the Kotagiri-Mettupalayam road in Nilgiris district.
It has been reported that traffic was signficantly disrupted and vehicles were diverted to another route now.
Waterlogging has been reported in several parts of Madurai.
Meanwhile, two trains on the Nilgiris Mountain Railway section were cancelled as soil under the track washed away between Kallar and Adderly due to heavy rain.
IMD prdicts heavy rains
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala and Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
The Met Department predicts light to moderately scattered and fairly widespread rainfall across the southern Peninsula of India.
The IMD's latest bulletin indicates widespread rainfall in Kerala for the next two days, while Tamil Nadu is expected to witness fairly widespread rainfall during the same period.
