Technical Fault Disrupts Mumbai Metro Services On Ghatkopar-Versova Corridor

Mumbai Metro services on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova corridor were disrupted for around 45 minutes on Wednesday evening due to a technical glitch in a train, said the operator of the rapid transit system. 
    
Commuters faced inconvenience as the disruption of services during evening rush hours led to chaos and overcrowding at several metro stations.
    
This was the second such disruption on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova corridor in less than 10 days. Earlier on April 18, metro services were affected due to a technical issue.
    
Mumbai Metro One, which operates the rapid transit system, said services were affected due to a technical fault in the electrical converter unit of a train. 
    
All passengers travelling in the affected train were evacuated at Asalpha station at around 4:45 pm, it said. 
    
"The glitch-hit train was withdrawn from service and normal operations resumed at 5:30 pm," a spokesperson for Mumbai Metro One said. 
    
As services were affected, commuters were forced to take BEST buses but many couldn't get in due to the huge rush. Many complained that they were unable to get cabs and autorickshaws.
    
"Chaos on Sakinaka roads, Metro shut, BEST buses packed to capacity, not stopping, tricks ain't available, PPL walking to Andheri Station now," tweeted Karan Jotwani tagging Mumbai Metro One.
    
Some commuters claimed Metro authorities had shut the entrances of stations until the services resumed. 
    
"We are not allowed to go inside Ghatkopar metro station. Security saying there is a technical issue. We are waiting for the last 30 minutes. They are not even opening gates," tweeted Mumtaz Baloch.
