Kerala BJP chief K Surendran claimed that the office received a threat letter against the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The letter warned of a suicide bomb attack on PM Modi during his two-day Kerala visit starting Monday.

According to reports, the letter which was written in Malayalam, was passed on by Surendran to the police last week. The police then traced down a person named N K Johny, whose address was present in the letter, which claimed that Modi would face the fate of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Mathrubhumi reported that the Intelligence Bureau (IB) has also taken cognisance of the letter and has directed authorities concerned to remain vigilant.

A report by Hindustan Times said that a letter from the Additional Director General of Police highlighted several other serious threat perceptions, including one from the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). The letter was allegedly leaked to the media.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kerala on April 24 for a two-day visit and attend a host of programmes including the flagging off of the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express train.

The BJP state unit, which is making all arrangements to accord a grand reception to the PM, shared a poster on Facebook announcing his visit, saying the "world leader" was coming to Kerala and tens of thousands of people would take part in a huge road show in Kochi on April 24.
