At least three persons were killed and a woman sustained serious injuries as the car in which they were travelling crashed against a roadside tree in Odisha's Nabarangpur district, police said.
The incident took place near Basini junction on Umerkote-Jharigram Road in the district on Thursday night when they were returning home after attending a wedding in Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur.
The deceased have been identified as Suresh Mondal of Chatabeda village in Raigarh, Gauranga Ray of Sonepur village and Satya Ranjan Bepari of Umerkote.
The grievously injured woman, Swaralata Bepari, was first admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the deaths and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased. He also directed the officials to ensure free of cost treatment for the injured person.
