Mallikarjun Kharge Hits Out At PM Modi For Inflation As Tomato Prices Reach Rs 160 Per Kg

The price of tomatoes has skyrocketed in several cities across the country and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party's greed for power has led them to loot the citizens of the country with such steep prices for food items.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge took to Twitter to speak about the inflation issue and slams the Bharatiya Janata Party government as the prices of tomatoes in Visakhapatnam reach Rs 160 per kg. 

The price of tomatoes has made another record as it surpassed Rs 150 per kg in several cities. Government officials reassured the citizens a couple of days back that the price rise is only temporary and it would go down in 15 days.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge claims that the central government is looting the citizens of the country with such prices of food items, he said, "Due to the loot of Modi government, both inflation and unemployment are increasing continuously. But BJP is engrossed in the greed of power."

Kharge continued to say, "The people of the country know that before the elections, you are working on slogans like “Acche Din”, “Amrit Kaal” so that your failures can be hidden with the help of advertisements. But this time it will not happen, the public has become aware and will answer your hollow slogans by voting against BJP."

Reports suggest that according to consumer affairs ministry data, the all-India average retail price of tomatoes was ₹83.29 per kg.

Tomato Price Rise:

Andhra Pradesh

The price of tomatoes in Visakhapatnam reaches Rs 160 per kg, reportedly. A customer told the media, "The price of vegetables has increased a lot. Tomatoes are being sold at ₹150 per kg. Customers are facing a lot of problems due to the price hike. I request the government to intervene and regularise the vegetable prices."
While another customer remarked, "The price of tomatoes has increased everywhere. Petrol is cheaper than tomatoes now. It has become extremely difficult for us to manage expenses now."

Bihar

According to the reports, the prices of all vegetables have increased in Patna since May but the price of tomatoes has been skyrocketing. While the price of cauliflower was Rs 40 in May, it increased to Rs 60 in July and similarly the prices of cabbage, potatoes and onions have seen a rise in Patna.

Delhi 

Reports suggest that the latest price of tomatoes in Delhi was ruling at Rs 110 per kg.  

West Bengal

As reported by PTI, West Bengal Chief Minister noted the price rise of tomatoes in her state and directed its retail network Sufal Bangla to deliver fair prices. The reports also claimed that with the retail network, the tomatoes were charged Rs 115 per kg in Kolkata. West Bengal Vendors Association president Kamal Dey told the media that the extreme heat and lack of rain have created a shortage of vegetables as the crops were dried and wilted.

Tamil Nadu

In the state of MK Stalin, he launched 82 fair-price shops in Chennai to provide tomatoes at cheaper rates. The reasoned price of the tomatoes became Rs 60 per kg and the minister for cooperatives in the state, KR Periyakaruppan has said that the initiative will be extended to other parts of the state if required.
