The factions of Shiv Sena lead by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde would be trying to gain upper hand against each other on the party’s foundation day on Monday.
This is the first time after the split of Shiv Sena last year, the Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray-led factions would be celebrating the party's foundation day at separate events in Mumbai today.
Both the factions will try to project themselves as the "true inheritor" of party founder late Bal Thackeray's legacy ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections and Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Ekanth Shinde-led Shiv Sena will organise its event in Goregaon in northwest Mumbai, while the faction lead by Uddhav Thackeray will hold its event at Sion in central Mumbai.
Eknath Shinde, last year had rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government and toppled the MVA coalition government of Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress with the support of 39 party MLAs.
Later, Shinde with the support of BJP became Maharashtra CM.
