Four persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Gujarat in two days as parts of the state received unseasonal showers over the past one week, an official said on Wednesday.

A cattle herder and 80 of his goats were killed in a lightning strike at Jasapar village in Dhrangadhra taluka of Surendranagar on Wednesday afternoon, while the bodies of three women, who were swept away in flood waters in Junagadh on Tuesday, were recovered during the day, a release by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) said.

When 25-year-old Chetan Bharwad was herding his goats for grazing in an open field in Jasapar village,  lightning struck them following light showers. Bharwad and 80 of his goats were killed on the spot, it said.

On Tuesday, a small river passing through Chudva village in Manavadar taluka of Junagadh district started overflowing following a sudden spell of unseasonal rains. A loading auto carrying 12 farm labourers got swept away while crossing that river in the evening, the release said.

"While nine persons were rescued by the local fire brigade and villagers, three women could not be traced at that time. Their bodies were recovered from the river in the morning (on Wednesday) from Chudva as well as nearby Jinjri village," it added.

These three women were identified as Shantaben Rathod (40), Bhartiben Solanki (40) and her daughter Sanjana Solanki (18). These women farm labourers were residents of a nearby village and were returning back in the loading auto after finishing their work, the SEOC release said.
