Eight individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident on Friday when a pick-up vehicle plunged into a gorge on the Chedakhan-Midar motor road in Uttarakhand's Nainital district, as reported by the police.

The accident occurred around 8 am while the vehicle was en route from Patlot to Amjad village, according to Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena.

The vehicle, in an attempt to avoid a motorcycle from the opposite direction, veered into the gorge, resulting in the fatal incident. Six individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while two others passed away at a hospital. Among the victims were a couple and their son, as confirmed by the SSP.

Expressing condolences, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami lamented the loss of lives and extended prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. Three individuals injured in the accident are currently receiving medical attention at the Community Health Centre in Okhalkanda, as stated by the SSP.
