Practising engineering without registration from the Board of professional and consulting engineers will be illegal. Violation will invite fines ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 and imprisonment up to six months.
Besides architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers and electrical engineers will be made accountable for constructions.
The registration of a professional engineer or an engineering firm may be suspended, refused renewalor even revoked for charges including:
Gross negligence, incompetence or misconduct in the practice of the profession.
Violation of professional responsibility or code of conduct adopted by the Board.
Practice of any fraud or deceit in obtaining a certificate of registration.
No firm shall be relieved of responsibility for the professional conduct or acts of its agents, employees, officers or partners.
Any aggrieved person may directly approach the Board to press any of the above charges against a registered engineer or an engineering firm.
