A video of a Nigerian man accused of theft and drugs being beaten up by a mob after tying him up to a pole in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar emerged on Monday, reports ANI.

The incident took place on September 24. The man was arrested and has been in jail since the incident, the news agency reported.

In the disturbing video, the man, whose name and nationality are yet to be identified, could be seen being tied to a street light post and thrashed with sticks and iron rods by the mob.

The FIR filed against the man states that he was involved in a theft and had been wounded after falling down the stairs. The video that has emerged now belies that claim of the complainant.

The Malviya Nagar police could not be contacted over phone.
Earlier this year, four Nigerian students were allegedly attacked by residents who took out a candle-light march for a 17-year-old boy who had died due to suspected drug overdose.
The representatives had strongly condemned the mob-style justice and blamed the existing stereotype regarding Africans in India.
Last year in May, a Congolese student was beaten to death in Delhi. Earlier, a Tanzanian student was attacked and partially stripped by a mob in the city of Bengaluru.
