He said the Noida police may have concentrated on arresting Hemraj who was initially thought to be the murder suspect. As Singh puts it: "Our cops got carried away and focused their energies on tracking down Hemraj because the Talwars felt the servant was the culprit. Perhaps the local police also did not want to dishearten the visibly shaken family; yet there's no reason why they should not have displayed better professionalism, at least by scanning the immediate neighbourhood."
However, the DGP continues to maintain that the Noida police's investigation was on the right track. He points out that they were also investigating Krishna, adding that they were convinced Aarushi's parents were "not innocent".
Meanwhile, Gurdarshan Singh, the then IG (Meerut range), was at pains to defend his salacious remarks during a press conference. He now says he was attempting to explain the details of the case and wasn't "defaming" or maligning anyone, let alone Aarushi
