Heavy rains have lashed parts of Gujarat resulting in a flood-like situation. India Meteorological Department has predicted the very heavy rains to continue till July 2.
Gujarat Rains And Flood
A red warning was issued by IMD for Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman Dadra Nagar Haveli, Amreli and Junagadh in Gujarat. They also mentioned water logging and flooding in most parts of low-lying areas in the city which might cause heavy traffic jam problems in all the routes of the cities. Predictions for riverine floods were also made for Rangmati, Nagmati, Dhandhar and Soni Rivers and their catchment areas.
Along with that IMD issued an orange alert for Bharuch, Surat, Tapi and Gir. And yellow warning for some other parts of Gujarat.
On Friday and Saturday, several areas of South Gujarat along with Saurashtra and Kutchh received heavy rainfall causing water logging and floods.
According to reports, teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed in Kutch, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Navsari, which were some of the worst-affected districts.
The weather office further advised fishermen to not venture along or off the Arabian Sea till July 3 due to squally weather triggered by active monsoon conditions. Light to moderate rainfall is also very likely to prevail over several parts of Gujarat till July 5.
Incessant rainfall has caused the Auranga River in Gujarat's Valsad to flow above the danger level. It entered the low-lying residential areas of the city. Locals were evacuated to safer locations by the administration and police.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed on Twitter that, "the government is fully engaged in providing all possible help to the people affected by the flood-like situation in many places."
He also mentioned speaking to the Gujarat chief minister to inquire about the situation there. The CM met the affected families of Jamnagar recently.
Uttarakhand landslides
Landslides in Uttarakhand resulted in the closing of the Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli district on Saturday. To control the traffic, it was opened on Friday but due to safety issues and continuous rainfall, the national highway got shut down again for the last one day.
There are a big number of pilgrims and tourists travelling to visit the Badrinath shrine at this time of the year and this highway closure has affected them. Reportedly the National Highways Authority of India has started clearing the road to restart the commute soon.
It was the heavy rains and flash floods that resulted in a landslide in Badrinath which led to the highway closing. Landslides occurred on Thursday morning near Chhinka due to heavy rainfall and the highway was closed for 17 hours. Several commuters were forced to spend the night inside their vehicles that day and to clear the road, the high way was opened on Friday.
Reportedly the local administration made arrangements for the stranded communters to stay in Birhi, Chamoli, and Pipalkoti and they were provided with food.
Uttar Pradesh
According to the IMD forecast, the East of Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall in isolated places. The intensity is likely to decrease from tomorrow.
IMD informed on Twitter, "Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over central parts of southern UP; Heavy rainfall is being realised over East UP on 3rd consecutive day since 29th June."
Bihar
Over the past 24 hrs, Bihar has received very heavy rainfall of 13 cm, said IMD. Roads in Patna have also be reported to have been damaged due to the heavy showers.
Himachal Pradesh
According to reports, IMD scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma told the media, "So far, no alert has been issued to Himachal Pradesh. However, the risk of landslides along the national highways remains. The showers will continue even after July 4." Himachal Pradesh recently observed landslides and heavy rainfall which left 200 tourists stranded but currently, the situation has gotten better.
Assam
The flood situation in Assam is getting better by the day, according to the latest reports the number of people affected by the floods has dropped to 20,000.
