WhatsApp was reportedly down for users in some countries, including India on Friday.
Users were not able to send or receive messages. WhatsApp is yet to confirm the outage.
However, services are now reported to have been restored.
The website Down Detector showed a huge spike in problems with the app, suggesting that almost everyone is unable to get online. The problems are focused in western Europe and Asia, but were reported across the world, The Independent reported.
WhatsApp Web, which uses the phone's connection, was also broken.
Users in Singapore, Mozambique, Vietnam, and Iraq also reported that they could not access the service. People had to revert to their normal messaging services and Facebook as they struggled to cope with what was happening.
WhatsApp’s official Twitter channels have not said anything about the outage yet – in fact the WhatsApp Status account hasn’t tweeted since February 2014 while the main WhatsApp Inc. Twitter account hasn’t been updated since August 2016.
People on Twitter are complaining about problems with the messaging service.
"So WhatsApp is down, what a time to be alive. #WhatsAppDown," one Twitter use wrote.
