The Indian origin Ajay Banga was selected as next president of World Bank on Wednesday.

He will take over the role of World Bank president from David Malpass on June 2.

Banga’s elevation to top post has elated Indians across the globe.

Here is all about Ajay Banga:

Ajay Banga is the son of an Indian Army officer.

He was born in 1959. He has gone to countries premier institutions for his education. During liberation policy introduction by then Finance Minister Manamohan Singh, Banga rose through the ranks of multinational companies who came to India.

In 2000, when Banga shifted to US from India, he worked with Mastercard. He also served as director of Exor and Temasek. He also worked with media companies including Mediacorp and the Economist as well as automobile companies like Ferrari.

Banga has agreed on scientific consensus on climate change, which has send climate analysts into jubilation.

Climate finance analysts elated over Banga’s appointment said at least he  believes climate change is caused by fossil fuels. 

There is also a section among climate finance analysts who believe that his stints at Nestle, Pizza Hut and Mastercard — is a natural fit for climate finance.

They also believe that Banga from India, a nation that’s simultaneously battling growing energy demands and climate change effects, his long career in America adds to their wait-and-see attitude.
