The nation is in turmoil. People are fiercely divided on the question of autonomy. Someconsider autonomy within the Indian Union the only hope. Others think autonomy wouldinevitably lead to the nation's disintegration.
I ignore both views. I think we have gone too far down the road. The question ofautonomy has become irrelevant. Now nothing less than total azadi will help.
People sitting in their drawing rooms airily discuss autonomy and federalism. Theydon't know the ground realities. Local people have become totally alienated from thesystem. They have become second class citizens in their own homeland.
From all over India, visitors come and dictate to them about what should or should notbe done. Local people have no voice. Democracy has become a farce. There is no rule oflaw. People live in terror.
There are daylight kidnappings and killings. Criminals from outside have penetrated thestate. The locals live in dread of them. The police cannot protect them. The policethemselves threaten and terrorise the locals. The locals are caught between two repressiveforces. They have nowhere to turn. Informed sources say that the police themselves are inleague with the terrorists. They share the loot from ransoms and murders.
The state government is a farce. It seems to be a toothless showpiece of the centralgovernment. When ministers and security forces traverse the streets, people desperatelyavoid them. Security men treat them like animals. They push them around with loaded guns.
Corruption has reached astronomical levels. vips have hogged all the prime land andbuilt palatial bungalows. The poor masses huddle in abject poverty. People have no faithleft in the administration, the police or the judiciary. Only when they are alone withforeigners do they speak out their hearts.
They see no hope in the electoral process. The same few families and leaders have avice-like grip on the electoral process. No true representative of the people can everhope to get elected.
That is why I say we have gone too far down the road. The state needs full sovereigntyand freedom. Then, and only then, might the citizens of an independent, sovereign,Republic of Delhi hope to get good governance and human rights.
Forget democracy -
Sovereignty is rot
If the state is free
And I am not!
