Ah yes, how can there be love without music? And what is life without love? If only our dreary politicians could imbibe Bhatt’s Bollywood wisdom, our lives would be different! Just think what might happen to the presidential poll if love were to go around! This, I imagine, would be the moving image:
As evening shadows lengthen, a young MP romances his girlfriend in Lodhi Gardens. "Darling," he whispers. "Isn’t it time we got married? Our second baby is on its way!"
The girl runs around a tree and sings:
"If you want to be my pati
First elect our Rashtrapati!
Love is blind intuition
We need our Constitution!"
Suddenly Sonia Gandhi pops up from behind a shrub.
"I keep an eye on all my flock!
IB informed me about you two from the day you met.
You are right, dear child!
Marriage can wait, the presidential poll can’t!"
Sonia looks up at the sky, and she too sings:
"Oh darkness, you are descending
But our day’s work is pending!
Why can’t my presidential choice
Make all our MPs rejoice?"
Mayawati, taking her evening walk, overhears Sonia. She stops and starts singing:
"Sonia, dear Sonia! Together we hold the key
Our joint women’s power can set the nation free!
But my choice for President has to be a Brahmin
So cooperate dear Sonia, why not say ‘Amen’?"
Just then Atal Behari Vajpayee is wheeled into view. He breaks out in song too.
"When I’m not kickingAdva-knee
I always rest my knee!
But I never tire
And I don’t retire
I’m a retreaded tyre
Still full of fire!
And whatever else may be
I’m a Brahmin from UP!"
Sonia sings again:
"We always trust each other
Like a sister and her brother!"
Then all of them sing in chorus:
"A Brahmin from UP!
Will he set us free...?"
So, you see how far a little Bollywood love could go?
