Less than five minutes’ walking distance away, the New Friends Colony Community Centre bustles with shops and activity. A curiously schizophrenic space, one portion is paved with good intentions and sandstone slabs. It is home to Gallery Espace and restaurants such as Barista and EGO. The other portion, however, looks like a war zone. It has shattered paving stones, unfinished construction and small crowded shop-stalls. Gigantic hump-backed cattle lurk in unexpected corners, splattering their dark brown calling-cards in both portions of the market. They wander about, magnificently indifferent to all they observe, like lords of the realm. And who knows? Maybe that’s exactly what they are...
