Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned as chief minister of Uttarakhand, the BJP-ruled hill state that goes to the polls early next year. The BJP ignores any call from satraps against a CM, but it took into account growing dissent against Rawat, probably fearing that his continuation may cost the party the state like the image of Raghubar Das led to defeat in Jharkhand in 2020.
A multi-agency probe has started after an explosive-laden SUV was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai home. The SUV belonged to Thane-based automobile spare parts dealer Mansukh Hiran, who had reported that his car was stolen. Hiran’s body was found in a creek on March 5, deepening the mystery.
The government has made front airbags mandatory in vehicles manufactured on and after April 1, 2021. For existing models, airbags have to be fitted before August 31 for the passenger in the front seat as well as the driver. The step was taken to ensure passenger safety.
