If you thought elections only make or break politicians and political parties, think again. Or ask Reena Dwivedi. The 32-year-old woman, who works as a junior assistant in the Uttar Pradesh PWD department, has found her photograph splashed across newspapers, TV shows, Tiktok videos, countless posts and memes on social media, thanks to a photograph clicked by a colleague when they were on their way to a polling station in Lucknow on a bright, sunny day.
But an unfazed Dwivedi has taken the INStant stardom in her stride and admitted to actually enjoying the spotlight. “I was married early but then I had a career for myself. Now that people are liking me, I am enjoying every moment of it. Who doesn’t like getting noticed? I am happy,” she was quoted in a news report. In fact, she even had to make a video call to friends of her son Aadit—who studies in class IX—to convince them that she was indeed the “lady in the yellow sari”.
Dwivedi can perhaps give a tip or two to candidates struggling to make the right impression on voters.
