It’s always a heartening moment when celebrities take up the cause of people who live far away from the spotlights. From Angelina Jolie and Jackie Chan to Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Amir Khan—stars have lent their fame and fandom to worthy causes for long. Now comes Akshay Kumar.
On August 20, he has spoken out about the vulnerable state of homeless children in India, promoting the importance of nutrition and good health.
Posting an old black-and-white picture on instagram, where he is seen as a teenager, riding a bicycle, he has talked about millions of homeless children, who are struggling to get access to healthy and nutritious food. Referring to his childhood days, he has said that he was always fond of sports and how his mother made sure that he got to eat a good and a healthy diet.
"Growing up I was always inclined towards sports and my mother would ensure I got nutritious home-cooked meals to fuel my passion. But it’s a privilege that millions of street children do not have access to. 11,72,604 children in India can’t afford even a single meal a day! It’s time to ask #WhyTheGap with @savethechildren_india," his caption stated. The actor also tagged his ‘Mission Mangal’ co-stars, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, and Sonakshi Sinha.
The actor’s post was an initiative to create awareness about the crisis of poverty and malnourishment faced by the poor, and the need to give them a healthy life.
Welcome effort, Mr Kumar.
