- Poachers wait to sight a herd. Once they spot a tusker (male), they start following the herd.
- Poachers then fire darts, specially designed 20-cm pieces of metal and wood, from crossbows to poison the elephant.
- They follow the tusker for six to seven days, until he falls to the ground and dies.
- Once the tusker is dead, they use steel saws to chop off a portion of the face and neck so as to remove the tusk.
- The metal and wood piece used to poison the elephants. Of the seven killed tuskers, it was found in the bodies of three.
