Best known for their minimalistic and Zen-like designs, A&T have a very distinct identity and style, say our jury; the quality and finish are immaculate and their products speak for themselves.
A&T knew 12 years back that the future of fashion lay in ready-to-wear. They were already quietly creating sensible, functional garments that found an easy market abroad. Their philosophy lies in using minimal design elements and making the most out of them. One of the guiding principles in their career has been to be careful about the pricing and yet not compromise on quality. Another highlight of A&T is their superb choice of fabric. They mostly work with hand-woven materials. "Our design process starts with the choice of fabric—the raw material—and that dictates the way for design," says Abraham. Using conventional materials like cotton and linen in unconventional ways is an A&T trademark.
The label’s mastery over fabric is largely due to Thakore. In fact when Abraham approached him to join the label, Thakore was already a name to reckon with in the fashion world thanks to his unmatched knowledge of fabric. He had carved a niche for himself in use of hand-woven fabric in the ’80s.
So, despite their Euro-centric designs, their fabric is strongly rooted in India. "We provide a local product with international flavour," explains Abraham. For instance, the label is best known for its single and elegant separates like shirts, pants, dresses in hand-woven fabric.
