A four-year-old boy has been booked for 'sexually assaulting' a classmate in the school premises in south-west Delhi’s Dwarka on November 17, the police said on Wednesday.
The girl, who is of the same age, told her mother that the boy used his finger and a sharpened pencil to assault her sexually inside the classroom as well as in the school's washroom, reported Hindustan Times.
According to the news sources, the girl returned home after school on Friday and complained of pain in her private parts. She was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed sexual assault, police said.
The mother alleged she informed the school authorities but they did not take any action.
"The principal refused to share details of the boy or his family. When a parent sends her child to a school, her safety lies in the hands of the school. But, in our case, the school behaved as if it was a case of loss or damage to their property," said the mother.
"The school needs to be booked under the POCSO Act for negligence in letting something like this happen in the classroom. This is due to the teacher's irresponsible behaviour," she added.
Based on a complaint filed by the mother, police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the law at the Dwarka (South) police station.
Investigators have however confirmed that they will strictly the case and legal action would be taken against the boy. "This is likely to be the youngest to have been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," said a police official.
The school administrations has been booked for alleged negligence, they said.
