Eligibility Criterion For Sperm Donors

  •  Minimum college education.
  •  Age between 18 and 40 years.
  •  Should test negative for HIV, Hepatitis and STDs.
  •  No congenital diseases like hypertension or diabetes.
  •  No major genetic disorders such as haemophilia, thalassaemia, spina bifidia, heart malfunction.
  •  The minimum acceptable sperm parameters are: Volume > 1 ml, Sperm concentration > 60 million per ml, Sperm motility > 60 per cent actively moving, Sperm morphology > 60 per cent, Freezability > 50 per cent.
  •  Will have to undergo counselling about the implications of artificial insemination.

  •  The donor’s physical details like colour of hair, skin and blood group and Rh factor have to match those of the recipient’s husband.

  •  Has to commit to a collection of sperm samples over 12 weeks after ensuring three days of sexual abstinence each time.

  •  At the end of three months, repetition of the blood test to make sure it still tests negative for HIV, Hepatitis and STDs (sperm samples are to be released only after this).

  •  Donor to sign a form giving up all rights over the semen samples and children born as a result.
