  • Nehru and Edwina Mountbatten: Witnesses describe an "intense friendship", corroborated by the last viceroy as well.
  • Photographs of Jagjivan Ram and son Suresh Ram were published in Surya magazine showing that father and son were involved with the same woman, in an attempt to defame Jagjivan Ram.
  • Lohia and Rama Mitra: The socialist messiah and his companion lived together all their life quite openly and it never affected his public image.
  • As a powerful I&B minister V.C. Shukla was accused of several relationships. The actress Vidya Sinha accused him of suggestive remarks when they were on a trip abroad.
  • MGR and Jayalalitha had a long relationship though MGR remained married to Janaki Ramachandran, and Jayalalitha was alleged to have mothered a child through the actor Shobhan Babu.
  • Nandini Sathpathy apparently was accused of being an alcoholic, indulging in sexual excesses, after a CBI raid on her house revealed the diaries of her son, Tathagatha. This story was also leaked.
  • Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Gopinath Munde was said to have had an affair with a 'tamasha' artiste Barkha Patil and even had a son from her. Munde later  denied the allegation.
  • Another minister in the Maharashtra cabinet, Ram Rao Adik, got drunk on a plane and "misbehaved" with an airhostess.
  • The puritanical Morarji Desai is alleged to have had a long liaison with deputy minister Tarakeshwari Sinha.
  • The Illustrated Weekly accused Orissa chief minister J.B. Patnaik of sexual misdemeanours but Patnaik sued the Weekly which had to apologise and pay an out-of-court settlement.
