It was like in a fairy tale. Pal, a nondescript politician from the Loktantrik Congress, had all the arclights trained on him for five days when he became the chief minister of UP. The miracle happened when governor Romesh Bhandari dismissed the BJP-led Kalyan Singh government and inducted a ministry headed by Pal on February 21. The BJP moved the Allahabad High Court on February 26 and Kalyan won a floor test. Next day, the Supreme Court reinstated Kalyan. Thus ended Pal’s hour of glory.
