United States-based fast food chain McDonald’s has apologised on Thursday after a customer at an outlet in Bangkok found what appeared to be cockroach legs floating in a cup of coffee.

According to a Hindustan Times report, Facebook user Nostalgic Eik had posted a picture on Tuesday (Oct 17) of the coffee he ordered, with bits of what he described as "cockroach legs" floating inside.

“I initially thought the cockroach legs might have been in the cup before the coffee was poured in. I told a staffer there and I was given a new cup of coffee. But it seemed that the problem remained as the next cup of coffee had more cockroach legs in it…"

The Facebook post went viral with over 2,000 shares and more than 17,000 reactions where some also criticied food safety at the fast-food chain.

However, following this, on Thursday night, McDonald's Thailand posted a statement on Facebook to "apologise for the incident" and assured customers that all its employees would follow the fast food chain's safety standards.

The statement added that the outlet manager apologised to the customer after learning about the incident and immediately provided a fresh cup of coffee.

McDonald's added that the outlet manager apologised to the customer who complained and provided him a fresh cup of coffee. McDonald’s also said that the employees at the Bangkok outlet had cleaned the coffee maker following the incident.
