An 18-year-old mentally challanged tribal woman was allegedly raped by two men in West Bengal's Dinajpur and metal obejects were inserted in her private parts, the police said.
The incident took place on February 17. According to a Hindustan Times report, the woman was found unconscious near a bridge in the village after lying unconscious for nearly 18 hours.
A passerby who found the victim on Sunday, told the newspaper that he was shocked to see that a woman in that state with her intestines coming out of her private parts. The victim was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
The Mumbai Mirrorreported that the men inserted an iron rod into the victim's private parts while committing the crime.
The victim is currently hospitalised in Malda Medical College and Hospital. The police have conducted an investigation into the matter, reported news agency ANI.
The incident that bears resemblance to the 2016 Delhi gangrape case has been condemned by politicians and activists in the state.
West Bengal State Women’s Commission chairperson Sunanda Mukherjee described the incident as 'shocking', and demanded that the accused should be punished.
The state opposition has slammed the Mamata Banerjee government over the horrific incident. "The chief minister is busy numerous statements every day, but she has found no time to issue a strong message against those who commit crimes against women. Clearly the safety and security of women is not her priority..." BJP national secretary Rahul Sinh was quoted as saying by the HT.
